Fall…into Fitness
The Rimland Health and Wellness Initiative continues to make a difference in the lives of the individuals we support. In October, we hosted a special event during our Developmental Training Program, Get Fit Day, to help clients reach their fitness goals while having fun.
Get Fit Day featured an indoor obstacle course, a Zumba class, yoga instruction, and healthy snacks and beverages. Personal trainer Marilyn Eason of Body by Marilyn Fitness Studio led the Zumba class. Zumba fitness is an aerobic program inspired by Latin American dance movements and set to Latin American music. A certified personal trainer and licensed Zumba instructor, Marilyn Eason uses the motto “Do what you can!” as she helps clients at all fitness levels to reach their goals. Rimland Zumba participants enjoyed dancing and listening to the music while reaping the benefits of sustained exercise.
Clients also had the opportunity to integrate mind and body in the yoga class taught by Kat Matthews, a certified yoga instructor with expertise in instructing individuals with disabilities. Practiced by many cultures around the world for centuries, yoga can improve concentration, focus, balance, flexibility, strength, breathing, and overall physical fitness. Ms. Matthews brought plenty of energy to the class, and clients enjoyed her enthusiasm and responded well to the exercises.
Building on the success of October’s Get Fit Day, we plan to offer additional fitness events, Zumba sessions, and yoga classes as ongoing components of our Health and Wellness program.
