Out and About: Expanding Our Community Programs
We are entering an exciting new stage at Rimland Services, where we are becoming an even more community-based, and community-involved, organization. Recently, we have begun implementing new programming, at both the Developmental Training (DT) program and at the residences, that allows our clients even more opportunities to take part in a variety of community events and recreational activities each month.
Our aim is for all clients to participate in a wide range of life-enriching experiences and to support them in our community as independently as possible. By taking into account client preference and observing their responses to the various recreational activities and outings they attend, we are able to create an individual program for each client that is both meaningful and beneficial to their growth and development.
Either as part of the DT or residential program, each of our clients has had the opportunity to visit a restaurant for lunch or dinner. Additionally, clients have attended Northwestern University basketball games, local holiday festivals, the Nutcracker on Ice, and many movies. Additionally, we were able to take several trips to Goebbert’s Pumpkin Patch in Hampshire, IL, this past fall, where clients had the chance to feed the giraffes. This year, we are looking forward to a visit to the Willis Tower Skydeck and to the Allstate Arena to watch the Chicago Wolves hockey team next month.
In addition to adding more outings to our client programming, we are implementing more recreational activities as part of the expansion of our Health & Wellness programming. Last month, the DT program took a trip to Lombard Roller Rink, where we were able to have a private roller skating party complete with music and pizza. We have also become more involved in the Evanston community by attending the local YMCA and YWCA for swimming and gym activities. Other events like bowling and mini-golfing have provided our clients with added opportunities to get active and have fun at the same time.
We are happy to highlight increased participation in an expanded variety of recreational and community inclusion programs in recent months, and we look forward to all that is to come in the new year, including new activities for our clients to enjoy.
