Special Olympics Swim Meet
On Saturday, March 19, six Rimland residents participated in the annual Special Olympics Illinois swim meet at Lake Forest College. The mission of Special Olympics is to “provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”
In this year’s swim meet, Rimland participants swam in several races, including the 25 meter freestyle, the 25 meter backstroke, and the 50 meter backstroke. Recognition for their accomplishments ranged from gold, silver, and bronze medals to participation ribbons. We are proud of the athletic efforts of all who represented Rimland at the meet. Congratulations to all of our participants!
