Special Olympics Region B’s bowling event took place on June 15 at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois. Five Rimland clients participated and did a fantastic job representing Rimland. We are very proud of all who participated and one client even came in second place! Attending Special Olympics is both a tradition and an honor at Rimland, and we are so happy to see so many individuals not only participating, but excelling.

Water Works

On Saturday, March 22, five individuals from Rimland participated in Special Olympics Illinois’ Region B Swimming (Aquatics) meet at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois. Events featuring Rimland participants included the 25 meter freestyle and the 25 meter backstroke. Two swimmers received silver medals and one received gold for their efforts in their respective events.

Competing in the Special Olympics is a longstanding tradition at Rimland and one we look forward to every year. Participants train throughout the year by attending swim classes and exercising. It’s terrific fun for the swimmers but also for the family and staff members who cheer them on. Congratulations to all the participants and their supporters!

Region B Spring Games, including track and field events, will take place May 4 at Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. We hope to see you there!

On March 25, six Rimland clients participated in Special Olympics Illinois’ 2017 spring swimming event at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Individual events included the 25-meter freestyle and backstroke. All of Rimland’s participants received ribbons and some even received medals for their efforts.

 

We are very proud of all of our participants and look forward to upcoming spring games in the area of track and field.

On Saturday, March 19, six Rimland residents participated in the annual Special Olympics Illinois swim meet at Lake Forest College. The mission of Special Olympics is to “provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”

In this year’s swim meet, Rimland participants swam in several races, including the 25 meter freestyle, the 25 meter backstroke, and the 50 meter backstroke. Recognition for their accomplishments ranged from gold, silver, and bronze medals to participation ribbons. We are proud of the athletic efforts of all who represented Rimland at the meet. Congratulations to all of our participants!

On April 26, seven individuals supported by Rimland took part in the Special Olympics Illinois Area 18 track and field meet at Mount Prospect High School. Rimland’s entrants participated in either the softball throw, the 100 meter speed walk, or in both events. They displayed good sportsmanship and were proud to participate and place in both events, receiving gold, silver, and bronze medals. Congratulations to all participants!

March Updates: Special Olympics, New Vehicles

On March 21, 2015, seven of the individuals supported by Rimland participated in the Special Olympics Area 18 aquatics meet, which was held at Lake Forest College. Rimland’s entrants participated in both the 25 Meter Freestyle and 25 Meter Backstroke events. Some Rimland participants won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the meet. We look forward to the upcoming Special Olympics track and field meet to be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Mount Prospect High School.

In 2014, Rimland submitted an application to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for vehicles through IDOT’s Consolidated Vehicle Procurement Program. This month, we learned that Rimland was awarded five vehicles, including two minivan paratransit vehicles with ramps, two light-duty paratransit vehicles with lifts, and one medium-duty paratransit vehicle with lift. The vehicles will be delivered between the end of 2015 and the autumn of 2016.

Making Strides at Special Olympics Illinois

Since 2010, Rimland clients have participated in the Special Olympics Illinois Area 18 aquatics and track and field meets. Special Olympics Illinois Area 18 provides programming for participants in the north and northwest suburbs of Cook County that provides training and competition in an inclusive atmosphere that celebrates athletic activity, emphasizes health, and rewards achievement and determination. The Area 18 aquatics meet was held on March 22, at Lake Forest College. Rimland’s entrants participated in both the 25 Meter Freestyle and 25 Meter Backstroke events. Some Rimland participants won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the meet.

The track and field meet was held on Sunday, April 27, at Mount Prospect High School. Rimland participants engaged in running, race walking, and throwing events, and some Rimland participants won gold, silver, and bronze medals at this meet as well.  Congratulations to all our participants!
